I know my initial response when I saw that she asked was AKLDFJSKLF HOW DO YOU NOT KNOWWWWW, but then I thought back and... I don't recall learning about it at all before taking world history in high school and I'm pretty sure in incited that discussion, so idk.
Plus, my 17 year old sister who's pretty damned well read hadn't learned about it, either. :(
(advented said some pretty lolstupid things, though. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS BECAUSE IT HAPPENED BEFORE I WAS BORN doesn't really fly. xD Then again, dude with an ugly Cloud Strife icon kept attacking her, so I can't say I'm surprised she snapped at her. DRAMA ALL AROUND!)
YEAH see the only reason i know about it was like I... think I was wiki'ing like.. disasters? I don't remember specifically but I mean it was never mentioned to me.. anywhere.
its a little sad
(lol i kind of just skimmed but I CAN'T really blame her too much for getting superdefensive but yeah she probably could have put more thought into what she was saying hahahaha but i guess in those situations you're kind of on the spot.. OH well.)
One hand, her defense was pretty shitty, but on the other hand, different things are taught in different places. I have never been taught about Chernobyl, for one. I don't understand why people are jumping on her for asking instead of just being ignorant :/
Exactly my thought. I mean, I wish this was taught in schools. It should be! (instead of relearning American history practically every year, but I digress. That isn't he point here!) But I hardly think that's her fault.
Two things really really bug me about what happened in that post, her reaction aside: The person who was most antagonistic? Was a teacher for one. The other being the ongoing consensus by some that "I'm not here to educate people! It's not my job!" Okay. Just step back and maybe someone else will? People who whine dramatically about ignorance and then don't want to do something as simple as linking to a wiki article? I have no words for them. :|
