It is pretty cool. Down in SIUC (currently I'm back in Kirksville for break), we get velvet ants.

I looked them up. Velvet ants seem really cool! I find it interesting that they are so tough, they can just waltz right into other insects' colonies and lay eggs.

I just wouldn't want something nicknamed a "cow killer" near me. Nor on me. *shivers*

I know that this is more about loving the plains, but have you gotten a chance to explore the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois yet? It is pretty great. Also, living in Cisne was the first time I'd ever seen fireflies, which are amazing.

No, I don't think I have. When I have time, I should see it!

Fireflies are an amazing part of summer, here in the midwest! If you hold out a finger by them, they'll land on you and stay perched for a while.
