An agency that I only signed up with on Wednesday has already come up with a job for me to go for, the only snag is that the pay is much lower than what I've been on at LDV. I'm now agonising myself sick over whether the right thing to do would be to take it (assuming of course that they offer it to me!) so as to get straight back into work, even ( Read more... )

I think on balance I'd go for it. A) because it would be the moral thing to do, as you have found something and B) because a long gap on the CV might look worse than a drop in responsibility.
Admitedly it might give recruiters an excuse to start you lower etc for the next role and that could impact in the future, but I think everybody knows what the work climate is like and people will understand and respect that you did it.
No-one says you have to stay there long and you can always drop it off your CV sometime in the future I guess, if at some point you deem the gap would be less damaging than the job.

I'd go for it. Maybe you could take on some sort of extra training at the same time, something small part-time? Something to make this period look better on your cv. That way you could say "I took this job because it meant I could use it to fund this course" in future job interviews.

And I would keep looking too, it's always easier to find a job when you already have one.

Taking a drop shouldnt reflect too badly on your overall career. People understand the need to earn money to support a family, so I'd say similar to Tanya; take it and keep looking for something better at the same time, once you've done the maths Rich suggests

Good luck
