In order to make bittorrent an enjoyable experience, follow these two steps:

1. Use a decent client. I recommend Azureus.
2. Make sure the right ports are open in your firewall. If you have a Netgear DSl router, make sure you have the UPnP plugin for Azureus and it'll open the ports for you.
