I've been reflecting recently on the fact that last week marks 1 year in Germany. Moving from one European country to another isn't nearly as hard as moving across the ocean, but even so, I feel like we lost three months or so just to dealing with all the paraphernalia of a new country, and it's only been in the last few months that everything has settled and we're back to just living rather than dealing with moving -- and it was only in retrospect that we realized how difficult dealing with the transition can be (I don't really believe that 1 year has passed, there is too much time that I can't account for!).

Hopefully by the time your 1 year mark comes around, things will be more settled for you, especially w.r.t. immigration and job status.

I skipped a bit in the middle about the whole move process - it was not the easiest of times, so I prefer not to dwell on it. I'm *hoping* my visa will get processed within a year, but who knows.

I completely sympathize with wanting to ignore the moving part as much as possible! I had moving-related nightmares for nearly 5 years after moving to Amsterdam, and our actual move was in fact quite smooth! I'll admit, I have actually not applied to jobs that I think I might've had a shot at in the last year, simply because I cannot face the thought of moving again so soon.
