John's got some family in town who went back to see their homes in Slidell last week--They both got at least 4 feet of water in their houses, and one of the houses lost its roof. Don't know the specifics about the mall, but they didn't think it had gotten water damage from what they could see. Will be 4 months before they are likely to be allowed to go back to rebuild, so even without much damage, the consumer population in Slidell is likely to be considerably lower than in, say, Baton Rouge...
Word on the channel 4 rebroadcast today was that Gretna was hoping to start allowing businesses back in no later than Monday to start cleaning up for their grand reopenings... The general population would have to wait a bit longer, but the city official interviewed was projecting within a couple of months...

Speaking of the Mervyn's in Slidell, I wonder how the Mall fared there. Haven't heard anything.
