I am reliably informed that with all their computers and prediction models the met office are only a few percentage points more accurate than "persistence" forecasting. i.e. "It rained today, therefore it will rain again tomorrow".

Although that does say rather more about our climate than their capabilities ...

I'm sure the Met is still restrained in comparison to our local television news here. An inch of snow is on the way, they get hysterical.
