The Last Hurrah?

This will be my last post before departure. Tomorrow, as of 4 P.M., I am fully in the hands of the U.S. Army. I will depart for the Cleveland Military Entrance Processing Station, and from there be transported to Fort Jackson, South Carolina for physical training and advanced individual training

I know you probably won't see this for a while, so I'm comfortable point out:

"Join the Army: It's good for you."

You mentioned all of the fiscal advantages, the perks, the bonuses.

You didn't so much as gloss upon the primary purpose of the military. We all know what it is, and don't sugar-coat it by calling it "Self-defense" because that's damn well not ALL.

I accept that fighting and war and violence are human nature and unavoidable, but that doesn't make them any less tragic

and they are CERTAINLY not good for the individual.

Congratulations, regardless. I did buy that book I want BOTH of you to read... Someday I'll send it, probably. Or "when" I come visit, I'll hand-deliver.
