I've definitely acquired a more relaxed attitude towards other people's behavior after coming to college. but there are some things that still bother me. Like my suitemates smoking shit in our suite ( Read more... )

I don't agree that alcohol only affects the person who is drinking it. I completely vehemently disagree, actually.

And personally, I'd rather be around stoned people than drunk people any of the week. They're much calmer, much more rational.

Alcohol does affect people other than the drinker, but not by virtue of secondhand consumption. That's what I meant. For me it's about choice -- saying "I'd rather" implies a choice, whereas the only choice I thought I made the other day was to come home early to my own room. I wasn't thinking, while opening the door, that I was making another choice as well. I don't want to begrudge people their own lifestyle choices, but I believe that a person's right to live how they want to ends when that person starts hurting someone else. It's one of the only philosophical tenents I actually hold to... honestly, I think the world would be such a better place if people would just be more considerate. I don't care a whole lot about the blowdryers and straightening irons strewn over the bathroom, or the pile of boxes in the hallway, because they don't interfere with my life. I mean, I care, but they don't exactly give me pause. I can close my eyes or look away and just be sitting in my little space, working on my own, and it's as if they' ( ... )
