Second place candidate in most recent presidential election in France: Jean-Marie LePen, of the National Front, which seeks to expel all non-French from the country, make Islam illegal, and ban homosexuality.

As opposed to our first place candidate in the most recent election? :P

And in case we base our choices on the vicissitudes of politics, I think we should remind ourselves how well the German economy fared under this fellow.

As for entrenched socio-political problems, I heard there's a new neo-fascist movement on the rise among German youth: Are you sure you wouldn't prefer riotous students and unemployed young Muslims to this?

I completely understand your points, but I just think the decision cannot be made by looking at politics. And anyway, wouldn't you rather I be a disdainful fop who smokes and drinks all day than a trimmed, punctual burgher?

my vote is for German. I've been trying to get into a class for a long time, and i'll get to start it in the fall, if all goes well.

Because really:
"Ich bin gefallen und ich kann nicht aufstehen."
means
"I've fallen and I can't get up."

and how fun is that!
