"Heat"
By A. Magiluna Stormwriter
"How can you even think in this heat, let alone stand over an open flame?"
Kerry just grins mischievously at me from where she's grilling steaks and burgers. Ella and Henry are fast asleep in their makeshift fort, having worn each other out under the sprinklers. I envy their ability to completely ignore the oppressive, humid heat that's fallen over Chicago.
"It isn't that hot, Liz," she says with a sly grin. "I was raised in the heat of Africa. This weather reminds me of the nights on the savannah when the storms were rolling in. All of that energy building in intensity and dancing across my skin until it just explodes with jagged white streaks across the dark sky."
Mouth suddenly dry from the dark promises in her eyes, I can't help glancing up at the sky, searching for those serrated flashes. Unexpectedly, I feel the urge to make love to my Kerry in the middle of a torrential downpour, complete with thunder and lightning.
