A question re: the DailyOM posts...

Nov 29, 2007 09:25

So once again, I've got questions re: my DailyOM posts. I've been having some issues in getting them posted in a timely manner, but I do still make them up eventually w/ retroactive/backdated posts. But is this something that y'all are even interested in reading in my journal at all? I know I did a post about this a while back, but I'm having ( Read more... )

I would like them behind a cut, though, if it's not too much trouble ;) xoxo

Two of the 3 [or 3 of 4 on Fridays] are always behind a cut. I only put the OM itself outside the cut...

I voted for "other" in the third question as a substitute for "I have no preference". It's your journal - do as you like :)

*nods* I'm still debating what to do... I mean, it "unnaturally" inflates my post-count, which isn't exactly right anymore, as I don't comment on the content like I did way back when. Maybe that's what I need to do to make me feel more "accepting" of these posts of mine... I mean, I like keeping a copy of the OMs info because it's nice to go back to it and I like LJ storing it, not me...

I would also suggest putting them behind a cut, but I think that anything that's long and / or takes time to load (extracts, memes, quizzes, picspam, embeds etc) should be behind cuts.

But it's your LJ to do with as you'd like.

I do read all your time wasting stuff - especially at work - and sometimes read the Sagittarius stuff because it's relevant to me. However, I do scroll by all your DailyOms. It's mainly because it's of no interest to me personally and it isn't a standard "Dear diary, today I did XYZ". I always read those posts.

Feel free to ignore me if that didn't make sense! :)

No, it makes sense. And that's kind of what I'm after with the poll. If people are primarily skimming over them and not benefitting from them, I'll put them in a different journal/place for "safe keeping". But if people are actually using them and getting something out of them, that's different...

I'm not suggesting a new LJ. Keeping it on this one will keep everything in one place for you. But it's easier for people who don't read bits (on anyones journal) to skim through lj-cuts.

Point taken, I suppose.

I'm just feeling extremely cranky today...and seeing some of the reactions is rubbing me the wrong way today. This was probably not the best day to decide to do this...

Obviously it's your journal and you should do whatever you want to; but I'd definitely prefer an LJ cut 'cause I don't tend to read things that aren't acctual content posts (on any of my friends lj's) :)

Well 2 of the 3 [or 3 of the 4 on Fridays] are already behind a cut...

It's a bit funny, see, I don't actually read your Daily OM posts properly.

However for some reason they've become a part of my routine, as in I really enjoy scrolling past them and reading a phrase or two and thinking about that.

So yeah I find it somewhat reassuring to see them there even though I don't really read them. However I wouldn't get upset if they went away since it's daft to be upset that something has gone that you don't really read, in addition to the whole entitlement thing which I'm usually pretty chilled about, i.e. it's your journal so the content should be your choice completely. If something becomes more of a chore than a fun thing to do, stop doing it (ok doesn't apply to vital things like jobs and cleaning litterboxes etc.) but you know what I mean.. I hope.

I never said I'd make sense.

No, it makes total sense, actually.

It's kind of becoming a chore for me, primarily because of a stupid rule I imposed on myself many months ago [before I started working again], in which I'm not "allowed" to post anything to my LJ on a given day until I've posted the DailyOM post. And I got into that routine back then, and now, with work, that becomes a chore. But I've just been backdating the entries when I don't do them on a specific day. I think I just need to readjust my thinking on this and post them, but say fuck it to not posting anything else until I've posted them...

There are a few things I need to rethink on...and I think your comment helps in a lot of ways with what I need to be considering. Not that it's knocking anyone else's comments, of course....

If they're a self-inflicted chore then surely that must go against what they're all about in the first place?!

To an extent, yes...
