So it was pretty much a typical weekend, I suppose.
shatterpath was pretty damned sick from mid-week on, including a pretty damned nasty fever that finally broke sometime on Friday night.
Saturday was the full moon. Didn't get to see the lunar eclipse, even if I'd wanted to, because we had cloud cover. *sigh* But it was a fucking beautiful day, despite that. We actually headed down to
Illahee to celebrate the full moon. It was
shatterpath's first real foray into the outside world, since she'd really gotten sick. The tide in Port Orchard Bay [which we'd previously thought was Dye's Inlet] was relatively low, so we got to walk along the beach and pick up sea glass. We even saw part of a seagull skull [top of head connected to upper part of beak]! No, we didn't take it with us, we left it there, but it was very kewl! We got a nice selection of sea glass to add to our collection. The water was actually quite clear for a good ways out, which made it ever so much fun to look for jellies, but there weren't any... *pouts*
So as we were heading out onto the pier to enjoy the water [and look for crabs and seals and such], a family that was coming in mentioned a seal being out on the moor/breaker concrete structure. Of course, I'd noticed it from the shore, but thought it was just a piece of driftwood or something that got stuck up there during high tide or something. So we carefully made our way down the pier/dock to the floating dock which is kind of perpendicular to the breaker moor.
shatterpath was looking for jellies and crabs, so was going slower than me. I eventually got close enough to be about 20-25' from this baby harbor seal. He was probably about 3' long and kinda thin, but he had the cutest speckling pattern to him. He kept flirting and flexing, too. SO damned adorable! Even got to see what we presume was his momma further out in the water, just a head and the sleek curve of her back and she dove in deep. We probably stood out on that floating dock for a good 15-20 minutes after that, and didn't see her again. But she could have gone farther out where we wouldn't easily see her...
We finally headed home and spent the bulk of the night watching movies and being lazy.
But ZOMG! I got within 25' of a wild harbor seal pup!!! This is one of the things I've always wanted to do... He didn't show any kind of fear or anything like that. And when we stopped back in on Sunday afternoon [about 24 hrs later], he wasn't there, so our guess is that his momma had him up on the breaker during the lower tides, while she was hunting.
Anyway, the big deal with Sunday was going down to Tacoma to hit
Build-A-Bear, where
shatterpath got one of the new
Cat in the Hat friends [and a
Cat in the Hat tshirt for one of our friends], and I got the
tabby kitty. See, I was supposed to get the lion, but he's been retired, damn it! And so I got the tabby instead for Em'ly's Purr... She's currently wearing a cute little pink and spanglies BFF tshirt and the harem pants and shoes from the Jasmine outfit I got for her on NYE [when I'd learned the lion was retired]. We also got a really cute little outfit for
shatterpath's mom's bear friend for her b'day. We even started to work out ideas for bear buddies for her sister, brother, and SIL. Should be quite cute!
After that, we hit another fun store called Fuego's, ate at Shari's, then headed over to Radiant Energy in Port Orchard. Picked up a few books and
shatterpath got some astralagus root to chew to help with her being so sick, based on the rec of the shop owner. We'll see how it works out... Then we hit Illahee again, as noted above. And more movies last night. I love movies...
And then I checked LJ last night and saw that BSG fandom was in imminent 'SPLODE!!!!! danger. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahaa!!!! I'm currently finishing watching the ep, and will doubtlessly have commentary at some point once I'm done...
