China Beach...

Jul 12, 2006 20:35

So those of y'all on my flist that watch/watched China Beaach, I need a favor...

I'm writing a Reverberation for Light, Water, Muses that involves Jesse [aka Gramps/Silverback] and KC. What I need are some bits of information about KC and McMurphy. Some sort of friendship [possibly more] type things...

I don't want to go into details of why I ( Read more... )

and someone [read imdb] lied when they said Louise Lombard was in "Grave Danger." I've been rewatching both parts tonight and she's not in either half...fuckers!

OMFG I KNOW!!! I was just combing through the transcript to find her parts, and SHE'S NOT EVEN IN IT!!! Grr. Maybe her scenes were cut due to time constraints?

And kindof funny that you just posted this as I was about to ask you some questions about Sofia and her part in the Nick ordeal. Heh.

I was hoping there was something there, as A] I'm gathering all of her eps for my own personal set of DVDs, and B] it kind of plays into the new Sassy I'm writing...

*rolls eyes at imdb*

Well, it's been a while since I watched any China Beach. My memories are pretty foggy so I went and looked at an episode guide to try and jog them. I think there's, "Some sort of friendship [possibly more] type things," in the episodes, "Hot Spell," "Tet '68," "The Unquiet Earth," "Miss China Beach," and "Strange Brew." I don't remember what "Phoenix" was like, but the guide description says, "K.C. finds herself in the middle of a C.I.A. assassination plot, and dependent on McMurphy to vouch for her innocence." Of course nothing fourth season rang a bell at all. I guess either we didn't watch it, or I haven't seen those episodes in syndication since. One of the fourth season episodes said, "In Saigon in 1967, KC gives birth with McMurphy's help and gives the baby over to a foster mother." I'm not sure what your looking for kimono wise, but there are lots of pictures of her in this little red dress...

Maybe it was that dress I was thinking of then...

I wonder if she'd have noticed if she'd "left it behind" at all...If McMurphy managed to find it and keep it all these years...

*Shrugs.* It might not be that dress. My memory is clearly shoddy. I mostly showed those pictures to a) show KC wearing red so you know it wouldn't be a big step for her to have worn a red kimono at some point, and b) show that the relationship between KC and McMurphy was one that they used in their publicity, the shot of them being a publicity shot. B-)

I wonder if she'd have noticed if she'd "left it behind" at all...If McMurphy managed to find it and keep it all these years...

I need to do more to freshen my memories up to be sure of the most plausible way for the dress to have ended up in McMurphy's possession, but I'm pretty sure it could've ended up in her possession somehow.

I need to see if I can refresh myself on their relationship/timeline a little more then...

Basically, the premise of what I'm writing is that KC gets a package in the mail out of the blue. In the package is the red dress/kimono/whatever, something that KC had thought she'd lost when leaving Vietnam. Turns out McMurphy's had it all this time, as a memento of sorts. When KC gets it back, she finds out that McMurphy has passed away and it was her wish that KC get this back, along with a letter detailing what their relationship/friendship meant to McMurphy. And it tweaks KC out, as she's finally admitting that she kind of had a thing for McMurphy, but never said/did anything about it overtly.

Does that make sense?

*Nods.* I can't place 1. 2 is the episode "Unquiet Earth," (looking at that ep guide this afternoon that one was the opener for 3rd season.) I'm not sure about 3. 4 is "Strange Brew." And, 5 is the fourth season episode "You, Babe" I didn't recognize. Your memory is better than mine. ;)

Hmmm...Okay, so I think my idea is plausible based on this info...

Let me know what you think...

I seem to remember KC and McMurphy developing this 'I owe you one' type of relationship - one would do the other a favour and she'd say she owed her, so as not to appear like she did it out of friendship (and at he very beginning she didn't), then the other would do a favour in return etc. then one time McMurphy made some comment about neither of them knowing who owed who what anymore (basically she was just saying they did it because they're friends/close) and KC got a little twitchy ( ... )

*Nods.* I think the line in the description of the third season episode, "Skin Deep (a.k.a. Miss China Beach)" that goes, "McMurphy uses a little guilt and a little blackmail to get a reluctant K.C. to visit a wounded soldier whose face has been badly disfigured," shows some of the give and take in the relationship.

The captured by the Vietcong story was the third season opener that we all seem to remember no matter how fuzzy our memories. ;)

So given what you remember, would the following be plausible?

Basically, the premise of what I'm writing is that KC gets a package in the mail out of the blue. In the package is the red dress/kimono/whatever, something that KC had thought she'd lost when leaving Vietnam. Turns out McMurphy's had it all this time, as a memento of sorts. And it tweaks KC out, as she's finally admitting that she kind of had a thing for McMurphy, but never said/did anything about it overtly.

And yeah, I understand what you mean about LL being too pregnant for the really physical stuff they were doing in "Grave Danger." And they never really did bring up why she disappeared until she came back, did they?

Feel free to pick my brain when you get home (shatterpath already is for her story...lol). I was an avid watcher of the show...plus I have them all on VHS in my room, if you'd like me to pull out certain eps. *vbg*
