"I didn't get us lost," Sofia retorted and swallowed a mouthful of soda. "You were the one who said she knew how to get to the crime scene."
"Oh right!" I snapped back, tearing my sandwich in half. "And of course I knew there was going to be road construction, complete with a detour that's completely fucked up."
She quirked a brow at me, and offered me the bottle. "Hey, hey, hey. I was joking, Sara. Lighten up, okay? I called Catherine and let her know what happened. We'll get there. Let's just eat and head back out with the directions we got at the gas station."
I picked at my sandwich. "Ugh. There's meat in this."
She dug in the bag and pulled out a pre-packaged salad. "I grabbed this for you. It's not that big, but it's a start, right? And there's some fruit in the bag, too."
Gratefully, I grabbed the salad and nibbled on it. "Thanks, Sofia."
"Any time, Sara," came the soft reply.
