"Thanks, Alfred," I murmured roughly as I took the steaming mug. Bringing it to my face, I breathed in the heady scent of freshly ground, freshly brewed kopi luac and took a large swallow. I didn't care if it was real or imagined, but the sensation of the caffeine pumping into my veins was certainly much appreciated.
"Late night, Miss Barbara?" he asked curiously, a brow raised curiously.
"Alfred? Where are my poptarts? I can't find them!"
Helena's overly perky voice drifted in from the kitchen and I frowned. How could she be so damned upbeat after… A slow smile spread across my face as I remembered the events of the previous night. She'd been so wound up after sweeps. Her pacing had been agitating me. And so I'd proposed a simple suggestion to bleed off some of that energy. How was I to know she'd take to said suggestion so enthusiastically?
Unless I was mainlining the caffeine, there didn't appear to be any chance I'd be going into the school today.
