I winced at the tone of that yelling of my name, both vocal and mental. I was in the worst kind of trouble. Trouble was, I didn't know what I'd done to deserve it. This third child of ours was taking more of a toll on me than the first two combined. I wasn't sure I'd survive. Taking a deep breath, I steeled myself against the impending storm of my wife's wrathful arrival.
"Richenda, my love, you look stunning," I cajoled as she stomped into my study.
"Don't you start that prattle with me, Alaric!" she said, shoving a handful of damp scrolls in my face. "Do you see this? Do you see this? Hours of painstaking work has been ruined. And why was it ruined? Because your second son has decided that his mother can no longer drink properly or wield a quill with any more finesse than a bloody hart ( ... )
