Amazingly bad drivers.

I watched an elderly man try to cross Memorial Drive, in a crosswalk with a walker and drivers actually flow around both his left and right because the light had turned green.  I was stunned, amazed and horrified.  People stop for people who might be slow or in the road, what the heck is up with folks?  *sigh ( Read more... )

as stated elsewhere, James is fine. The car is not driveable and may be declared not worth repairing by the insurance co.

I ALWAYS stop when someone is in the crosswalk. That said, I really hate when folks don't use the walk signal or even the light to cross the street when it is there. I still stop, but I do it grumbling. If you can't follow the rules of the road, maybe you need supervision. I hope that doesn't sound mean, I am very courteous to those who are my elders, as I should be.

It's not a new phenomenon. Back when I was living in Davis Sq, I very nearly witnessed an accident because I stayed put at a light that had turned green while the elderly woman crossed in front of me. The guy behind me decided he wasn't going to wait and whipped around me. Fortunately he missed her. I caught up with him at the next light and had some choice words for him.
