My first interaction with the story was the movie. And it didn’t work for me. I didn’t understand why Lizzy and Mr. Darcy fell in love. My sister then told me to better watch the 1995 mini series, because it gives the story more time and explains stuff much better, which I totally agree with.
Last year I finally read the book, though not the original, but the German translation. But it was still good.
I might try watching the movie again, since I really like Keira Kightly, but to be honest, after Colin Firth any other Darcy is just not good enough (no, seriously, the actor in the movie was never my cup of tea, which probably made it harder for me to understand why everyone was so taken by Mr. Darcy) :P

Hi dear.

I will try to break it down for both characters.

Mr. Darcy: At the beginning of the book, Darcy says, “ She is tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me; and I am in no humour at present to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men. You had better return to your partner and enjoy her smiles, for you are wasting your time with me.”

Later on, he talks to Caroline Bingley about "fine eyes", and he later defends Elizabeth's post-exercise state to Caroline, and then there was this: “Yes,” replied Darcy, who could contain himself no longer, “but that was only when I first saw her, for it is many months since I have considered her as one of the handsomest women of my acquaintance.” And here is the part where Darcy responds to Elizabeth about when he started loving her.

“I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look, or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun.”Elizabeth Bennet has "liveliness of mind", Darcy likes that she's fiery ( ... )

Noninvasive, I like it a lot. Just not the movie. The book and the 1995 series are great. But the movie was just… too short for actually telling the story in the best way. At least that is my thought.
