they make bear repellent (http://www.safetygearhq.com/bearspray.htm). maybe you should invest? it supposedly sprays up to 20 feet, and comes with a neat little holster...

very cute, abbie, but bear repellant is pretty ineffective for the most part. the best thing to do is to make a lot of noise. buy a little bell that you attach to your pack, sing songs, laugh a lot. bears don't want to come in contact with you anymore than you do with them.
