3 good things

1. The super-fancy-schmancy weather alert radio I ordered arrived today! Now I can fall asleep during storms confident that if any warnings are issued I will be awakened by a loud, obnoxious noise. It was pricey, but it has all kinds of bells and whistles on it, plus an am/fm radio to boot.

2. Boxcar Poetry Review emailed today to say they're ( Read more... )

poetry stuff, life is good, shameless self-promotion, shameless consumerism

i just read a couple of the poems at boxcar review and bookmarked it for reading more. terrific writing...congrats on your work that was accepted there.

the radio sounds very reassuring. it seems the storms are getting worse and worse; having a radio that alerts you of anything dangerous is a great thing to have.

Thanks for the congrats! And yeah, the radio will be a good thing. I had one before, but it got old and fell apart, and it didn't have all the bells and whistles this one does.

1. very good. i have to admit that i've been somewhat envious of your wild weather. yes, there is a limit beyond which it is no longer 'interesting', but from here it is like the call of a siren.

2. excellent.

3. i got my phone call today too - YEAH! they also mentioned having a few other styles, but i decided to start with the classic.

1. gah! You can have it. Hail and tornadoes and stuff freak me out.

2. thanks! :)

3. Hm, they only emailed me, they didn't call! Unless they called me at work after I had left for the day, which is altogether possible given the time difference.

I've been pretty happy with the purchase of our weather radio last storm season. It can be a little jarring when it goes off but it's nice to look at the display and not see the word TORNADO and go back to sleep. Plus the information that the robot voice provides is usually quite specific as far as "the storm will hit town X at 5:12 and town Y at 5:18 etc. The one mild annoyance is that they do a weekly test twice every Wednesday, but you get used to that.

Yeah, I like the specific information like that -- the tv stations around here are always quite good about giving that, too. I'm sure I will get a lot of use out of this thing. :)
