The Next Morning

Arica woke up early and quickly got ready and started making breakfast. She could hear Eric begin to move around and get ready himself. After breakfast was cooking, she woke the twins and they sat in the living room watching Teletubbies. She moved back to get breakfast and finally ran into Eric

*softly* Would you like to talk about what happened?

Arica explains as calmly as she can, finishing with. "I just don't know what to do. This isn't the man I married. He's self-destructing."

[on_holy_ground]

"This is deeply troubling on a great many levels and I am becoming concerned for your safety and that of the children. You are sure he has never done anything like this before?"

[aricamuse]

*She shakes her head* He's never acted like this before. I do believe he'd never hurt me but like I said, this isn't the man I married.

Jack Bauer was not having the easiest time of things recently. Chris Gautreau had spoken with him the day before about Eric Weiss having an attitude problem, and Jack had trusted Chris' instincts and put the man on suspension, but that still left CTU down an agent.

This was to say nothing of Brittany. He sighed and considered her situation. She was like him, maybe too much - she kept at things until she hit walls, she wasn't afraid to break rules or pursue dangerous options. He knew that was what she was doing now. He wanted her to find out for herself what was right and what was wrong. He'd found that out with Nina. And as much as he wanted to protect her from that, he knew that she was a grown woman and she didn't need to be handled anymore.

If at all - she was always on the fast track, he thought with a little bit of a smile. He looked around the empty house. Kim was in class, and Brittany was on her off day; last he'd heard, she was visiting Universal Studios with his actor alter-ego. Kiefer will take care of her for me.

Arica took a deep breath to calm herself. "Hi... I'm sorry about today, I'm just not going to be able to make it." Even to her own ears, her voice sounded shaky.

"That's fine. Don't worry about it, there are other things that I can be working on." He figured now was as good as ever to bring up his other motive for calling her in. "But I spoke to one of my agents yesterday and he's concerned about your well-being."

[aricamuse]

"I'll be fine," Arica replied automatically.

Honey, are you ok? What happened?

"I don't think there's anything anyone can do until Eric realizes that there is a problem"
