What I really want to know is: how did people get so up-in-arms-crazy over Obama's speech and honorary degree at Notre Dame's commencement because of his pro-choice positions--which are not a matter of forcefully aborting the unborn, but giving mothers free will (something which Christianity supposely cares a lot about) over having children, but ( Read more... )

I totally see your point. I am pro-life, but it is not the only thing I consider when determining whether I will support a politician or not. To be honest its one of the last things I consider. The reason being is that I think it is possible to be pro-choice but also enact policies that will actually reduce the amount of abortions being done. Its terrible that when women are unexpectedly pregnant they have to choose between lots of hardship or abortion. There should be a third option. Anyway I'm getting sidetracked. The thing about the church is that its a matter of policy that abortion has become THE issue of our time. Its where the church is holding the line in a manner of speaking. So that's why they won't budge on anything related to abortion and go to extremes like denying communion to politicians among other things. I was confused on why it there was an overreaction to anything related to abortion, but the Church has decided to really make a stand on this.
