The Plague

It's descended on our house and my place of work apparently. Last Friday I was feeling pretty darn horrible. I drug myself out of bed and said to myself I'd go in for about an hour or so, just long enough to get some pressing things done. Then I look outside and realize I had to clear snow off my truck and said forget it and went back to bed. I ( Read more... )

My family does the vegetable gardening in raised boxes - About a foot deep and 2 feet wide, and then however long depending on what they're growing in it. The midwest is great for things like corn and soybeans, but tomatoes and cucumbers and even carrots just get utterly destroyed by all the rain.

The benefit of the raised boxes is that they hold only enough water for the plants. Sometimes you have to sprinkle them in the evening, but even though we had way too much rain and even some severe flooding last year, we had probably 400 gorgeous tomatoes off of 4 heirloom plants. Seriously.
Maybe you should try it? ^^

And wtf, you're dreaming about me? Eeeew, creepy!!

We have to container garden because we can't tear into the yard. So I think we need to find a little better placement for the containers, which is hard. Either it'll be too shaddy, or the plants will get bashed by water pouring off the roof. They really pruned back a bush in front of our windows that we'd been fondly calling "the child eater" because it was taking over the sidewalk and could probably eat one of the neighborhood kids. I'm hoping it'll stay pruned (or I'll just do it myself and screw waiting on the landscaping company) and put the tomatoes there. ^^

Seriously...creepy crazy fever dreams about Rai are weird.
