~*OFFICIAL CMA: SAMHAIN 2007 PLANNING POST*~

UPDATE: 9/19/07 - Sunshine won't be able to attend early. It's looking like Lindsay and I will be the first to arrive on Thursday. In order to pick a good spot, we need a head count! I'll add the names of those I recognized - if you aren't on the list, speak up!

Good call on the rubber hammer and canned food. I think you added those after the fact, because I have no memory of coming up with them. Kudos!

And I really hope someone else wants to do a fire, because while I can poke at flaming logs with the best of them, I shudder to imagine the two of us trying to handle such a potential disaster. I may have been a Girl Scout, but they only taught us how to make friendship bracelets and paper mache flowers, not make safe campfires and set up tents. O cruel misogynistic world! (J/K)

I'm so excited about this! Thanks for making the post. :)

The ideas actually came from that check list I printed out from CMA's website. They had some things we didn't even talk about, and after going over the list about five times (it IS a Virgo moon afterall) I added the few that I felt were things we'd really need/use ( ... )

Excellent! Yay swag-bag wonderfulness!

And I do feel better to learn that you posses pyrokinetic abilities. Woo hoo! Did you know that psychologists have done studies on the way our brains react to watching hypnotic things like fires and ocean waves, and it actually has a huge beneficial effect on our craniums? Especially the fires, apparently. Must be something primeval in our psyches that we derive such comfort from a bunch of burning sticks. Cool, huh?

I went a little crazy with the recipes, but I thought you'd have some fun poking through them. :)

Recipes! Oooohh.... randomdream September 10 2007, 20:15:15 UTC
What happens when you try taking a couple of cancer girls on a camping trip? Oh, dear....

(Also check out Camp Recipes and the highly informativeChuck Wagon Diner, which features things like Campfire Muffins which can be made in orange peels instead of muffin tins!)

From ABOUT.COM:
Biscuit on a Stick
Who doesn't want a biscuit on a stick, I mean really?

Corn on the Cob (Over Hot Coals)

Hoot's Taters
(potatoes & assorted veggies in a foil packet with butter, garlic, salt, and beer (I really want to try this))

Mac and Jack Daniels
(Bizarre but probably better than it sounds, and wouldn't need to be refrigerated...)

Foiled Sausage and Veggies
(Again with the non-refrigerated-ness but less bizarre...)

Spider Hot Dogs
Seems to go with the theme of our trip. Kind of. :)

Fruity S'mores
(why didn't I think of that?)

OMG OMG YOU ARE SO WONDERFUL. You are so much more of a cancer than I am...

This of course means we are going to have to update our actual FOOD list, and sit down with a few planned meal ideas. That way we don't buy too much.

SO EXCITED!! *sqee*

*giggles like a girl scout*

I've called Sunshine and left a message directing her here.

I'm also planning on baking some bread on Wednesday and possibly trying out a recipe for lentil soup with red wine... Can't have a movie night without dinner now can we? Not sure it really goes with Marie Antoinette, but for that we'd probably have to get some Chardonnay, and brie or pâté to go with fancy crackers, maybe some chocolate covered strawberries. And as fun as that would be, I'm just not going to bother, lol. ;)

You know... Lindsey said something about how I should come along... she didn't mention that I would have to pay a bunch of money to join the CMA...

Plus it really freaks out all of my san antonio pagan friends that I would even consider it... they think I'd be out of my league... pshah...

Wait, out of your league? Are they unaware of all the crazy Pagan gatherings you've been to? I confuse easily. You know this.

And yes, you should come along!!! The fee is $25 to join the CMA, and $50 for the ticket. But honestly, all of that money goes back into what they do. It's not like they are making a profit off of us...they put all that money back into the land. They own something like 40-ACRES, and taxes + upkeep are expensive :O blah blah blah COME!

Mac and Jack Daaaaaaaaniiieeeeeelssss!

Hello beautifuls!

Sorry it took awhile to find this post (Thanks Lindsay for calling :) I've been moving and internet has not yet arrived. I am typing this illicitely on my corporate master's dime right now ;P

I am actually pretty poorly able to answer most of your questions ATM due to a long time spent away. HOWEVER, the Asst. Director for CMA is my former roommate (as of last week - see above referenced move), and I will get you some answers tout suite!

In regard to the campsite, I just found out that unfortunately my boss will be out on 10/19 which almost certainly means I will not be able to make it out until Fri. evening b/c someone will have to be here to help fill in for her. That said, I'll be making a post real soon about my intentions to go and attempting to get a headcount. If you don't mind, I'd like to also link back here to further assist with coordination of the group. Several folks have expressed interest!

Thanks you all for taking all this initiative!!! ;)

Hi Sunshine!! :D

The more, the merrier! It's always better to camp with a group. I'll try to update this post as we go along as well, and feel free to use this as a reference/coordination spot!

YAY!! *so excited*

Sorry you're gonna miss out on the first night! But that also means that we're gonna need all the tips you can give us on how to pick a good campsite, how to claim a spot near our tent for you guys, and anything else you think we should know for setting up and the first day's festivities.

I can't wait, this is all gonna be so much fun!

My dear Merispork, whose real and/or preferred name is totally unknown to me, that is quite a lot of excellent advice! Thank you for your well-thought-out post!!

I'm personally interested in a spot "Across the Road" and I'm wondering if you think it's possible for us to grab that kind of spot if we plan on arriving mid-to-late afternoon on Thursday.

As far as car camping goes, I don't really know for sure but think it would be incredibly helpful to me to have the car close at hand. I don't anticipate breaking a leg or having a heart attack, but parking nearby would be great. I'm on crutches and while it's technically possible for me to go long distances, I tend to be grumpy afterwards. And nobody wants a grumpy gimp. ;)

Cool idea with the cinnamon.

Possibly, though the car will make it a bit harder to manage. You may end up having more options back towards the rear of tent city (all of these vague directions start making more sense when you get to the property - we've got maps). That may be the best place for you in terms of mobility and proximity.
