Thank you! I'm glad there was some continuity of character, even with the disruptions. I like what they do with Merlin's aging spell in the show--that he actually feels old as well as looking old, so I was curious to try the reverse.
Such a wonderful little story! I loved how naturally the events flowed from each character's personality, up to the crisis point. And this:
“The boy I was could not bear to see a person die under his hands; the man I have become has faced that consequence many times and learned to endure it.”
Was just perfect! Great ending line, too. Very, very nice.
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback! I wanted to write de-aging fic that wasn't kid!fic, and I like the glimpses of Gaius's past we've gotten now and again in the show. He seems to have gained emotional restraint as well as skill, so I'm glad that came across.
You're very welcome--I'm glad you enjoyed it! Merlin's scruples about using his magic directly on people without their permission (cf the S4 finale) are kind of interesting to me. And I'm glad his mingled sympathy for and annoyance with Gaius came through.
Oh, this is wonderful. I have such a love for Gaius, and so this thrills me to pieces - such wonderful character notes, re lessons learned through time.
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I don't write (or read) kid!fic, so that kind of de-aging fill was never going to happen. But the idea of an older character getting to be a young man again--that was interesting to write.
