Well, the Shepherd family reunion didn't exactly go off without a hitch, but I'm still so proud of Derek for making the most of it and doing the best he can. Meredith deserves a gold star, too. She handled the situation like a pro, even though she was probably more nervous than he was. I hope the rest of their Thanksgiving goes better! Keeping my fingers crossed that they make the baby announcement, too. I can't imagine how much his sisters will gush over the newest, little Shepherd, even before he or she is born. Meredith and Derek are already a hit with the kiddos! :) Great update as usual, and I'm patiently waiting for more!

Thanks a lot for the feedback :) No, the Shepherd Shindig definitely didn't happen without kinks, but I loved that I was able to show how far Derek has progressed, in that while he was understandably a nervous wreck about making a good impression, he was able to speak up for his needs, and not let any of the badness own him for more than a few minutes. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter!

I've re-read this chapter a couple of times and haven't left a comment for it yet. Shame on me. It was incredible, as all of your chapters are. Derek memories of his lonely childhood and the teasing from the other kids were heartbreaking.
I think it was very realistic that Derek is having troubles with his family at first, because they don't know his life and hasn't experience what has changed for him. I'm glad they were very understanding in the end and realize that he is still Derek.
Love the small interaction with the kids in the end and am looking forward to the game of Candy Land and every other game the family might play in the next chapter.
Oh, and Meredith once again rocked this. I wish you could write supportive (of her husband) Meredith on the show for us.

Thank you so much for the feedback :) I've always suspected that, given Derek's personality, and the fact that it's canon he was a small, acne-ridden, band geek that he may have suffered a little in school. Kids tend to be mean when there's easy pickings, unfortunately. I enjoyed exploring that a little, though, you're right, it was indeed sad! I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter :)

This was wonderfully done. I always love Shepherd family time in your stories and this didn't disappoint. Derek really is so brave. As always, looking forward to the next update!

That was such a great update and totally worth the wait. Derek's dad sounds like such a wonderful man, the flashbacks were heartbreaking and yet touching. Rachel was very rude, though, not her biggest fan at the moment, she reminded me a little of Nancy. The line about stealing hearts was suuuper cheesy, but so Derek! I smile whenever the baby bump is mentioned. Still hard to see him struggle, but he's slowly getting better, and Mer is a super wingwoman. Loved the interaction with the kids, too, it was very endearing. Can't wait for more.
It's a little weird that Stewart isn't there. Can't Amelia marry him or sth? :) I miss him.

Looking very much forward to 28.3.

Thank you so much! I've had a lot of fun building up Michael Shepherd as a character in his own right in this story. Rachel was definitely a bit of a hotheaded bitch in this chapter. I was aiming to make her somewhere between Kathy and Nancy. So, like Nancy, she tends to be judgmental and brash, but like Kathy, she's also quick to accept her faults and apologize for being an idiot. And hah! That would be an interesting excuse to bring Stewart into the picture. I keep waffling back and forth between being happy with my decision that I let him live out his days in the LSTverse (and a few short stories, when I go too crazy missing him), and frustrated that I can't use him, now, because it's too late to stick him in.
