Birch, Willow, Apple, and Elder. Birch, Willow, Apple, and Elder. Birch, Willow, Apple, and Elder. This particular combination is "ringing" for some reason...
They are all my favourite trees - not in that order but still all of them have some significance for me. What springs to mind first is dark (Apple and Elder) and Light (Willow and Birch, though apple and willow could be interchangable). They are all feminine trees too; the connotations I have for them (to be brief) is wisdom and new beginnings.
Well, this might be just way too obvious, but they are all found on some list of the druidic '9 sacred woods'. I notice this because I just spent a bunch of time looking them up for my Beltaine fire ritual.
The other thing I notice is that three of those trees tend to grow by water, the exception being apple, which of course is found where it's been put by humans.
