First day of teaching.

I suppose this will get better with time. Why do I feel like I don't have any authority? I want to be a powerhouse but I end up being a powermouse. Every word coming out of my mouth seemed to me like an awkward nervous squeak. I thought middle school was insufferable... now they really are all staring at me.

Teaching older kids must be very different from teaching preschoolers as I did, but I understand that feeling of having no authority on the first few days. If your school is remotely like my school, it will get better once you, and they, adjust. It's tough to have that balance of respecting them and instilling respect, as well as getting them to like you. Just be yourself and don't take any crap. You'll be fine, darling.
