Even in context, I assure you this was completely out of the blue.
ETA: On the other hand, I just read a sweet doujin about Sasuke and the five Uzumaki brothers who live next door to him and he and Naruto have part-time jobs at a gas station run by Orochimaru, so perhaps this is the pot calling the kettle black. Then again, doujin is supposed to be weird because it's unoffical, unlike that published-in-Shonen-Jump-this-week panel up there.
