I've been going through my WIP folder, trying to make a dent in my expansive fic list. I don't exactly miss the years when I wrote one fic and only one fic because it's easy to burn out on the idea that way, but this helter-skelter scattershot approach isn't much better for productivity. I have plot roaches, which are far worse than plot bunnies. They multiple like mad and can even survive stupidly long after you think you've dealt with the problem by cutting off the head. And if you happen to stomp on them to put an end to them, you only succeed in releasing the eggs.

I know I strictly speaking don't owe fandom more than I can give, but I do feel obligated to finish what I start and it's so daunting sometimes. I have a couple of original things and while I finally do want to share them by being published, I don't want it badly enough yet to be motivated to do the work. Fanfic's an easy diversion, especially on the long days, and I'd be just as happy if my published something was that research project I worked my butt off on last year.
