Oh, Jack. You are so right, this is something that will break her, because kickass as she is, and strong and brave as she is, Sam is still, at her core, the little girl who wants to get everything right. It would be like water of a duck's back for Jack. All he cares about is if he thinks he is right. She cares more about being seen to be right, and although she has the courage to handle it, it will eat at her in a way that it wouldn't for him, and he knows her well enough to see that coming.

That's what I love about this verse, that it's Jack telling the story (I tried Sam but it just wasn't right somehow), and that he has a whole bunch of realizations as they go through this new challenge. He needs to know that Sam might/will break in a way that she never did before for this story to work. Because he can be there for her but he can't protect her, it's not like he can shoot her critics, THEIR critics. Though he'll probably offer anyways. ;)
