I am sorry but trying to find an excuse or make peace about this? I guess I am horrible because I would have been like "WHAT DID YOU SAY?" and started some big ass fight. What the hell? That's rude. Rude, rude, rude. I don't care if she was exaggerating. I don't care if she would have said it to a Hobbit. That was not nice! And it sounds like she has the manners of a cave man. Y'all are much nicer than I am. I hate Aunt Suzy!

Yeah, this is ridic. Not even anything else to say about it.

I did, however, remember seeing the baby's name on FB and wondered about the pronunciation. I don't know if you're sharing here, so is it like the similar boys (and sometimes girls) name, or is it an emphasis on the last syllable? Does this make sense without actually trying to spell it out? ha.

Either way, I think it's cute and if I'm guessing the nickname correctly, even cuter. So forget Aunt Suzy.

(I thought I had lost icons because I let my paid account expire, but they appear to be there... odd.)

The spelling is the problem because then it makes people think exactly what you were wondering -- is there an emphasis on the "ette"? But no, it's pronounced the same way as the boy version. I'm totally down with boy names for girls, but it gets on my nerves when people have to go and intentionally misspell names to make them unique.

Yeah, I was JUST talking to my mom about that yesterday. It came up when I said I only just recently realized that "McKayla" must have started out as somebody's "unique" spelling of Michaela. Like, I had never even thought about the fact that they're pronounced the same because they LOOK so different to me.

In that case, "McKayla" is actually pretty common nowadays, so people probably get it, but my biggest issue with "unique" spellings is that the poor kid is going to have to spell/correct for the rest of their life. Just pick a name that sounds nice, and spell it the least troublesome way! haha.

I have some friends with a little girl named/spelled Elliot, and they call her Ellie. I think it's adorable :) partially because it reminds me of the tv show Scrubs.
