Sadly, the only books Mother could find were mainly about ADHD, with which I distinctly have not been diagnosed, and I was too lazy to read them. I don't remember much about details. It turns out that the term "ADD/WO" is no longer even legal. In any case, I was too lazy to look too deeply into even the easy version, but it does at least appear to have some similar symptoms.
Arrrr, it almost π-rate day.blitzconMarch 14 2008, 04:36:13 UTC
I know you can't stand your current job and are looking to leave it, but would it help at all if you had hearing protection? I could look into getting you something I saw when I went to the rifle course in Nevada - the people using them said they could still hear conversations but it blocked the gunshots out nicely. I've been meaning to get some myself. I would probably buy a spare set, and I could get more (save on shipping and all.)
I will have to contact some people to find out EXACTLY what they were called, so stay tuned.
P.S. I am glad you're sticking with the job in the meantime. I'm not sure I could stand it.
P.P.S. I never saw "Cool Hand Luke" either. Is it a Disney movie? That would explain the tag.

I do wear earmuffs. I think this helps because it doesn't muffle the voices any more than the louder background noise, thus avoiding the sensory overload while not making it any more difficult to discern individual sounds. The problems are that (a) the noise is still enough to be skull-jarring, and (b) the earmuffs themselves are also often quite painful, so I prefer not to wear them except during the worst of it.

P.P.S. No, that's from the subject line.
