Isn't it interesting that when you weld together small pieces of metal, the welded joints are even stronger than the original steel? It's kind of like the mended pieces of a broken heart, it gets stronger with each heartbreak ( Read more... )

The heart bit, it's true, well sort of. It's because when a heart is broken, literally speaking that is, the scar tissue that forms is stronger than the original cardiac tissue. But that is not necessarily a good thing in medicine because cardiac scarring can lead to a lot of complications.
