Top 100 books.... read or not?

I don't know that I necessarily agree with the list.  I mean, Bridgett Jones was fun, but I don't know that I'd put it in the top 100?   Am wondering who put this list together and what the criteria was, anyway.

The "Big Read" thinks the average adult has only read six of the top 100 books they've printed below.

What I've noticed from these book list posts is that most of the people I know are not average American adults. Which confirms my postulate that there are an awful lot of idiots out there. Breeding. *shudder*
