Sustainability education gets talked about all over the place. It is being talked about at our community college, among other places, including like local businesses, etc. It's the buzzword on everyone's lips. But, honestly, it sure doesn't get the love. Decide you're going to go that direction and 90% of your associates will think you're nuts ( Read more... )

You are making a good decision. Green is growing.
I focused on environmental literature and people thought I was making it up in the mid-1990s; now it's a whole field.

Your path is just fascinating. I always think of Octavia Butler when I think of environmental literature. So much of her work had such a strong sense of place for me. Maybe part of it is that she was from L.A. and I would just sink into her descriptions in the L.A. books. And Clay's Ark - I find myself thinking sometimes that I could find those old roads out into the desert - that they must surely be there...

Much of the material I've been reading has come from your side of the Pond. You are ahead of us in most of this stuff. We've got some good stuff going on, but I don't think we've moved as far along the path as you have. I suppose part of that is because we are a biiig country; part because there is so much resistance here still.
