(FIC) Fluent in silence (Bruce/Clark, R)

Feb 18, 2008 20:47

Written for Bruce's birthday, and posted a little bit early so I can celebrate it with starsandsea :D

I tried to do a '5 times...' but failed at the last one, so it's a '4 times...' fic. I think it works fine as it is anyway! Beta by the team beta damos and jij. All other mistakes by yours truly :)

Happy birthday to the Big Bad Bat! *twirls happily*

Oooh, very well done! Deeply romantic without being over the top in any way: this was a very enjoyable read and the restrained writing style was perfect.

Thank you so much for sharing!

Thank you! I'm very glad you enjoyed the story and that it wasn't over the top. I'm an unapologetic romantic but I like my romances... well, quiet! they seem comfortable :3 Thank you for reading!

Beautiful and lyrical...

I'm not sure I can say anything more than that, but I really enjoyed this. Thanks.

You know what this reminds me of, a line from Jeff Lang's song "London."

It's only in the live version, but this line is wonderful and your story reminds me of it:

"Now we're done with working and there's no one's lurking around
And you're sharing my breath and the silence has the best sound"

Ohh, those are beautiful lyrics. I'm going to have to hunt that song down. I'm all about the quiet, reasonable (if that's possible) romances where it seems snuggling is all around pleasant :P

Well, he's kinda hard to find online. I had to buy the CDs to get anything.

Getting them in the US is a neat trick too, he's from Australia and I think he's in a niche market even there. (I heard him originally on an online radio station from Australia that has since gone belly up, but I'm in love with his music.)

I've uploaded it for you since, unless you're google-fu is far batter than mine, you won't be able to find the music online anywhere.

This is from the Disturbed Folk vol. 2 CD and it the live recorded version of "London."

Oh, that was so beautiful and heart warming. I wish I could say more but it wouldn't be anywhere near coherent.

This is so perfect and Bruce-like. I don't see him as the grand gesture type, but those would just make Clark uncomfortable anyway. Besides, love is everyday.

I wish I'd written this!

Yeah, exactly! My version of Clark just doesn't take grand gestures very well, and neither does my Bruce. Me being completely unable to function under great displays of affection, I suppose I can't write them any other way... I'm so glad you enjoyed this! Thank you for reading :)

Grand gestures sound good on paper, but for introverts they're torture. I also figure Bruce would prefer to be with someone without a production. He works off any flamboyance as Brucie and instead is surprisingly- domestic. And Clark would probably hide- "Everybody's looking at me! Where's a- oh, good, a potted plant. Let me become one with nature and pretend I'm a tree."

Could this possibly be cuter?
I THINK THE ANSWER IS NO.
Just...gah, adorable, and so perfect. Bruce is the show-not-tell type. Those fools that can't see it are just missing out. Lucky Clark!
Time isn’t cowardly and superstitious, but it too bends down to the will of Batman.
Eee!

LOL, thank you, hon! I tried my best to keep the boys low maintenance and happy with each other.

The Bruce in my head seems to have that -if only that, lol- in common with canon Bruce, he just doesn't talk about that stuff much. He does, and what he does speaks for him. After all, words are just... words! Clark was very clear in my head about how he really didn't need anything else from him. It was a fun story to write! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

...and yes, time will bend to the will of Batman! For he is The Night!
