Found this review of the book 'Buio' (Darkness) from Paolo Mauri. Chances are I won't find the book in a language I can read it in -not yet, anyway, I will get you, Italian!- but it sounds very pretty ( Read more... )

Ooo, this sounds fascinating, sis! An analysis of darkness! *swoons* Alas, why can't it be in a language someone on the flist can read?

But even this review is yummy food for thought! All the talk of ritual is making me see Jason Blood fic. ^-^ And the double edged nature of night! Human-scale darkness vs. the immeasurable! Eeee! I can't wait to see what stories come of this once you are free. :D

I want that book!! argg, darn Italian! But it makes me think fun thoughts about Gotham and Metropolis and Bruce and Clark and all sorts of silly bunnies :P

I love the double edged nature of night! it goes, of course, hand in hand with the double aged nature of light, and I'm in such a counter-cliche kick right now! Safe in darkness, mrow.

Free, free, I'm free! Jason Blood hasn't talked to me in a while, woe... he needs to charge his batteries so he can attack me with some crazy bunny later, I suspect. Hope you're doing good, sis!

Without altering the Light/Darkness dichotomy, the results of their incessant balancing-out are by no means a foregone conclusion. The darkness of blindness brings both the prophesy of the soothsayer and the skill of the bard.

Eeeeeeee.......though I can't help but think of Pieter here, balancing the darkness of blindness with the light of reason. The idea of a counter-Genesis, with darkness providing a respite from God's unblinking light...mroooowwww, I love it!

"Invincible" is on my iPod! It's a sign, I tell you!

Ohhh, Pieter!! That's an awesome reference for him. I want to play with him, but all my knowledge of him in canon is.. vague -Jones, you hack!- or inconsistent -Jones, you double hack!

I'm captivated by dividing darkness into different scales.. and it makes me think of the connotations of absolutes, which is something I've seen loqia play with Authority but not something that is seen much around S.S. Blark.. probably because of the alter egos and the personalities behind the masks. But I think it was her Gods and Monsters were Apollo is terrified of becoming perfectly uncaring like the Sun. Uncaring and distant is not something I would peg on Clark, but it's something I've seen you play a little with movieverse Kal, and it's a nice reversal of the Light/Happy/Safe/Sweet/Warm-Positive associations or the Dark/Sad/ Dangerous/Bitter/Cold-Negative associations. I remember when I was younger, I used to combat my fear of the dark -not so much of the dark, but of the monsters in the dark- but saying to myself that if there were monsters in the ( ... )

I'm listening to your radio station on Last.fm! That is so awesome!

God, I'm so tired. This kind of Den Mothery stuff is so tiring, not least because I suck at it!

Yes, and it ties back into the God things too--happy fluffy Christian themes aside, gods and angels are usually portrayed as terrifyingly aloof, implacable, inhuman (they are inhuman by definition!) And of course Clark could well be afraid of that. Bruce as the pinnacle of humanity, perfectly human, and the darkness as sheltering and protecting, are things I'm so loving right now ( ... )
