Gotham and her strays are such a wonderful theme, and I love the sort of...cruel sheltering she gives them.

That's such a wonderful way of describing Tim--"faceted jewels of pain" works for all of them, but somehow best with Tim, I think.
It only takes a moment to fall in love with her.
I like to imagine that moment for Damian! I'm not sure when it will be, but there's got to be a point where he feels that connection. His awkward tenderness for children and "strays" is a good sign, you can feel Gotham just keeping an eye on him for now. :)
I love this, and the way Bruce and then Selina are all through it without being in it (Gotham sounds a lot like Selina here, which makes a lot of sense!)...it's gorgeous, thank you for it!

Gotham is kind of like Elmira, lol. She loves them! just.. she's dangerous! strangles them with her possessive love, I suppose? Though I kind of like the idea of Gotham being sort of.. a dual city. The loving/cruel, the day/night. I love how flexible she is for Gothic shenanigans!
I love Damian's concern for Gotham's children! I think he's earned a bunch of Gotham-points for things like that. And.. I know (if he doesn't die or something) he'll have his moment of communion with Gotham eventually.
Gotham and Selina do sound similar in my head! it's.. odd? I don't think Selina's purposely cruel, but.. she can be? I like the theme of loyalty and obsessive love a lot, lol, it.. kind of fits Bruce and Selina!

She put a hand to his dark hair, put her lips to his temple and took his father away from him as well.
That one, too. I loved all of them...the flirting with Damian, the joy of Dick's, the cruelty of Babs'. This was amazing, thank you for sharing it.

I loved the idea of Gotham flirting with Damian, trying to win him over... I think he's well on his way, poor little Damian hasn't really had a home before Dick and Alfred... I'm very glad you liked this, it was a lot of fun to write! thank you for reading!

It's only when they leave her, when they leave Gotham, that she turns jealous and tears them apart.
The imagery this invokes!! And though it's Tim's, it works for a lot of the others as well!

I don't even know what to say.
That was *amazing*. Gorgeous and heartbreaking and I started out wanting to quote all the lines that made me shiver back at you but there's entirely too many.
Seriously, this is one of the most evocative, innovative and well written pieces of fan work that I've read in a long, long time.

I loved writing this, Gotham has a very distinct attitude, if not always a distinct voice, for me, and playing with her role in the shaping of her children was very interesting. Thank you for your kind words, and for taking the time to read this! :D
