I am such an idiot

Good news first. My raise was excellent--half again what I was expecting, and within inches of buying-a-car territory. It's certainly enough to start looking ( Read more... )

First, congratulations on the raise.

Second, talking about money isn't easy. I know how it feels. And I wouldn't worry, because no one was seriously inconvenienced...and if the seller was ticked off about someone coming to see the car, finding out it was out of her price range, and leaving, then he has no business selling a car. He should wait until he gets people who try to offer about your price range, and call it a good deal, before he gets ticked off at you.

Thanks. I still think I should be able to talk about money in clearly money-oriented contexts, but it's nice to know someone else feels the same way.

I think it's one of those things you just have to do once and then you learn...I do think if you are buyuing a used car (or any car) though, it's impt to not only talk about the price but negotiate it.

Congrats on the raise!

Which would be great if I didn't associate all motorcycles OMG SCREAMING FIREY DEATH. Although I do admit that's a personal problem. ;)

Yay raises!

I'm sorry about the car issue. I have a feeling the Sierra mobile won't make it to Ann Arbor. :(

First, congrats on the raise.

Second, looks like you can get into a 2001 Hyundai Accent for $3k. Hyundais are much more reliable now than they used to be, to they point where they were offering 10-year warranties.

And make sure you look on Craigslist - here's what I've turned up:

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/car/146065351.html - call this one first

and finally, http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/car/146015248.html - this one's a bit out of your range at $3300, but you can probably talk him down to $3000

Thanks.

That's interesting about the Hyuandais. I'll have to look into that.

And thanks for the Craigslist posts. I've been looking mainly in Memphis (where I can get an expert opinion for free), so I didn't see those.

NOT an idiot. I forbid you to feel bad for having been brought up with enough manners to not talk about money.

*hugs*

Good luck with the car search (I'm doing the same thing...in about a year).

And congrats on the raise!! Yay positive cash flow! :)

Manners are good, but actual survival skills are even better. It turned out anyway, though! (more details in my next post)

::hugs back::

Thanks. It's a sucky thing when you can only shop for cars in the doesn't run to barely runs range. But I am forging onward!

Thanks! Whee! :) she said, noting that the positiveness of her cash flow would soon be minimal at best, thanks to CAR. ;)
