Interesting snippet in my life this weekend

Jan 23, 2006 00:46

I've been planning about a million little posts, but I never seem to get to them. I have a year wrap-up/resolutions post that I meant to make, oh, on January first, but as you can see, I didn't. I have a long post about intelligent design mapped out, too, but... And I have a number of other posts, too, on things like health insurance, my neat job ( Read more... )

updates, medical

they'd instructed somebody (I don't know who) to call for an ambulance

Yo.

What time was it when you got out of there?

OK, I'm blind. Question withdrawn.

Aw, honey! What an ordeal! I'm glad that despite it all (and yeah, ERs are not fun -- I've never been there for myself, just had to take a lot of people there over the years) you're okay and it's just minor injuries. Head injuries do bleed like crazy -- I cut my head open by falling off a couch and hitting my head on the floor (and jabbing my metal barrette into my scalp) when I was 2 and from what I've been told, it looked much much worse than it actually was. (No staples for me, just a butterfly bandage)

Anyway, glad you're okay. *hugs*

*hugs back*

Thanks. That's some metal barrette! I remember those, although by the time I was in school you could only really get the plastic ones. They were pretty scary--I found one in a drawer while cleaning out my bathroom, and it looked awful. (Of course, the rust probably made it look a lot worse.) You're right about the head injuries--I remember feeling the blood running down my neck and thinking, "Head injuries bleed alot; I'm not dying. Head injuries bleed alot; I'm not dying. It's all okay, I just need to get up."

This was 1965 so stupid things like metal barrettes were all we had. I was at my parents friends house (my grandmother had died so my parents were away dealing with the funeral stuff) and their teenage son was babysitting me and I guess I rolled off the couch, hit my head on the floor and jammed the metal end of the barrette into my scalp. Much bleeding ensued.

It looked a lot worse than it was from what I was told. I really don't remember much about it other than getting M&Ms from the EMT guys who picked me up in the ambulance cos I was so good about things. LOL

I'm glad you're okay!!

Yeah you did get some blood on my coat, and on your hat. But don't worry about it, it washes out. I washed the hat, but I'm not sure I got everything, though. I'm glad that nothing was *really* wrong. And I'm sorry about making you lay in that uncomfortable postion while we waited for the ambulance, but I wanted to make sure they were there before you got up. Anyway hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry! Thank you for washing my hat--I was dreading coming home to find a hat full of dry blood, but it looked just fine. ironroot says he can see some small stains on it, but I think they're light enough that you can't tell. If it starts to bother me I can always see about bleaching it (weakly, I suppose; it is angora).

I understood about waiting for the ambulance; it's a lot better to be safe about it than to take chances.

Oh, good grief! I hope you're feeling a wee bit better now! You may want to consider putting some sort of high-friction surfacing on the top of your stairs so it doesn't happen again.

I "lucked out" when I fractured my skull five years ago - I was unconscious long enough and had enough trouble standing when I came to that they brought me to the hospital on an ambulance with sirens blaring. Patients in ambulances with blaring sirens don't have to spend hours in the waiting room. =p

I do feel better now, although I had a rough day yesterday. I should know better by now than to take Aleve; it never works and I'm stuck not being able to take anything else. I finally decided to go ahead and take the day off work. and I'm glad I did. I got a lot of sleep, and the worst seems to be over. Now I'm just sore and realizing how very lucky I was.

You fractured your skull? Eek. I'm glad they cottoned on to how much help you needed; you could have been in bad shape if they hadn't.

I didn't really mind (much) sitting around in the waiting room; I knew there were people there who needed help more quickly than I did. Still, sometimes you start to wish they'd quit talking about what kind of food to order and print out your damn release papers already.

Wow. I'm glad to know it all worked out, but it still sounds really, really terrifying. :(

I think it was a lot more terrifying for everyone else--at least I knew I was okay. I can't imagine what it was like to watch, not knowing if I'd been badly hurt.
