I think JJ can do subtly. I have a good feeling about this. To be honest, I could do without the modern day issues. What I wanted to see in the sequel was Kirk making smart decisions. That's part of what drew me into the series, he was always thinking two steps ahead. Reboot Kirk kind of just ended up getting lucking a lot.

I liked Kingdom of the Crystal Skull too. I mean jumping in the refrigerator to survive a nuclear bomb was completely ridiculous. That was the only part of the movie I couldn't suspended disbelief for. Aliens... sure I can go along with that, but lead fridge... no.

Also, is that Mike Rowe in your icon? :)

Oh, I could, too. I know the allegory was a staple of TOS and the other series (if I really wanted, I could probably list the episodes, even) but that doesn't mean the reboot series has to be. Still, I hope that IF they're going to make it topical that it stays subtle and doesn't eclipse the fun and the action and the character development. I am also crossing my fingers and hoping we can have a sequel where Kirk makes smart decisions as well (because ITA, the new one was a lot of luck on Kirk's part. It worked, but I want to see him be smart, too ( ... )

Omg the swinging monkeys... that was so much what-the-fuckery, I laughed non-stop through that.

Mike Rowe is the sole reason I listen to Ford commercials. ...there are so many bad jokes I could make right now about him being a dirty man.

Me too. XD I think by that point there was no other choice. The ants then hovered the line between being ridiculous and an Indiana Jones staple, since stampedes of SOMETHING have appeared most if not all of the previous films.

Mike Rowe makes me wish I had a need for an F-150.

He's the dirtiest of dirty men. And the master of double entendre. And he has those deliciously muscular arms.
