Tomato Plant Ramblings

I wasn't going to grow tomatoes this year for what I finally decided was a really stupid reason; that being having to find a babysitter for them for the week that I go Up North at the end of August. They need a sitter cuz they're in pots that sit under a slight overhang - enough that it makes a difference. They get a lot of sun there but the rain ( Read more... )

Aw, bring the pots with you, they'd love the field trip.
It's great that you're going for it anyway! I think I've seen that "Better Bush" brand before...
We're not growing tomatoes for spurious reasons - nearby squirrels TOOK all the ripe ones and ran away with them last time. I saw this myself. I think they buried them too. Nice going, squirrels.

Judy, if Saturday mornings don't work for you, there is always the West Allis farmer's market 65th-ish & National Ave. They start selling at 1pm...goes til 4 I think. I was there this past Sat. and spent about $16 bucks. I got $5 worth of tomatoes since mine will take a while. I know it's early for anyone to have tomatoes but this guy has selling um' has a hot house and I got the ones on the vine...and they taste awesome (he had free samples--just grab one and eat it!) I also got a small bunch of red onion, sugar snap peas, spinach, strawberries and a catnip plant.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm sure those hot house tomatoes still taste better than the ones in the grocery store. That farmer's market seems to have the best time frame. There is one in Menomonee Falls that goes all day BUT it's on a Wednesday. Can't get to it because I'm working. Who the hell decided to do one of those on a Wednesday is what I wanna know! Stupid!

Yeah, the tomatoes I got are very tasty...MUCH better than the store! I hear ya on the Wednesday thing, but I'm sure that time frame works for someone out there. The West Allis one has some weird times during the week too, but I just go on Saturdays cuz they start at 1...perfect for me since I'm usually just rolling outta bed right around then. I'm not getting up at 8am on a Saturday morning for the green market...no way! Heh.
