okay so theres nothing i want more right now than an inexpensive digital camera to record my life here in new york for the next three months. i have the place for it. but i need a camera. and a computer to download them into
( Read more... )
Since your in NYC check out tekserve, on 23rd and 6th Ave ( this is THE apple store in NY, before there was an actual 'apple' store). They have a bullentin board and you can post what your looking for, and may see it posted. Also you migth be able to get an "Apple loan" for the computer... as I tell my students, it is almost more important to own a good computer now than a camera! There is also a new apple store in soho, not sure where? Then also, check out 17st photo and b&h, for a good deal on the camera. I got my Leica digital from 17st, it was under 700.00 and I love it. It is a great digtial camera for photogs...
thanks so much, honeywest! i know about the apple store in soho (its on prince st, in the old post office building!!) but was hoping to find a used one, as i cant afford something brand new right now. i will definitely check out tekserve though, and will look into getting an apple loan through the apple store (i didnt realize they did that). b&h is the best, so i will definitely check there for a little camera if i cant find a used one somewhere. thanks again!

Hey,
I have an oldschool G3 powerbook...it's 500mhz, 6 gig hard disk, 392 megs of ram, and all the software you could ever want...I have a new ibook (graduation present) so I don't need the old one anymore. It needs a new battery ($60) but other than that, I'd be happy to give it to you, since it's just taking up space in my apartment. It has firewire/usb/ethernet ports, a built-in modem, all the good stuff. Even Jaguar.
Except it's in the suburbs of Boston.
So if you're up here, and you want the computer, let me know.

actually, my boy and i purchased a new imac in november of 03, shortly after i posted this. but i am in a situation right now where i am moving out / leaving the relationship (too much information maybe...) and need a computer of my own. your reply came on the perfect day, i must say, so thanks for letting me know. i dont know what an old school powerbook looks like or acts like, but i dont need it for much. probably photoshop, email, web, etc. that kind of thing. do you still want to get rid of it? how much do you want for it?

Heh, it has photoshop (either 6.5 or 7.0, not sure, haven't used it since last June), does fine on the internet/email all that good stuff.
It does need a new battery, for sure, and you'll probably want to do a re-write of the whole disk since it's fragmented beyond belief.
If you want the computer, it's all yours, I'll take your advice on the Bash Bish Falls as payment. Just let me know a few days in advance so I can transfer my old emails and files from college to my new machine.

For the used laptop, check out ibook and powerbooks... people occasionally post for sale notices for used laptops there.
And it's good to see you posting again! I know what you mean about NYC bleeding resources dry, though.
