The upsey-downsey's of life

It's been 4 years since we packed up and moved to Vancouver Island. I know this because we had just leased (with our fingers crossed, as we had not even started the job we were moving for) our Matrix. Well the Matrix has (as of yesterday) gone on to whatever the next phase of its life holds for it and has been replaced by a much more spendy Prius ( ( Read more... )

It's good to hear from you. How's the family?
Congrats on the new car, and I hope the future gets a bit more stable for you. Sorry things are rough right now. *more hugs*

*HUGS* Hang in there things always have ways of working out. My husband just joined the land of re-employment. I too am not working right now due to a latex allergy. Yay on the new car though! Good to hear from you though! Good thoughts to you and your family.

Thanks for the kind thoughts Karen. I have been (sporadically) reading my friends page and I was concerned to hear about your problems with latex. Allergic reactions are no fun at the best of times but most seem fleeting and non-damaging. The ones that hang on like yours has are a worry. For myself but particularly for our (or any ) child. Hope the specialist can get you sorted out.

Robin is fine, trying to figure out what she wants to do after maternity is over. Violet is (of course) the smartest, cutest baby ever :-)

I rented a Prius once. 46 mpg on 2000 miles of highway driving. I wasn't blown away, but it was still better than I could've gotten anywhere else.

Sucks about getting laid off, though. :-(

The thing about the Toyota hybrid system is that it gets its best mileage in the city when, at times, it will run on all or mostly electricity, and when regenerative braking will charge the batteries most as well. On the highway the thing runs mostly on the gas engine and any assist from the electric (on hills or acceleration) will get recharged from the engine during low load (flat or downhill driving). The Honda hybrid is supposed to have better highway numbers, but its not as good in the city as it is an always gas-assisted-by-electric in the same ratio. Or so I hear.
