Chapter 1

There were a lot of things people would tell you if they thought you weren’t listening.

For example, Ohno had realized that Aiba liked Sho probably before Aiba even had. Aiba’s hands had told him when they unconsciously reached for Sho-kun any time they were together (just enough so that they were touching, like it was a coincidence his hand was there too). Aiba’s face had told him when the animal fanatic would wait in the hall with a shy quirk to his lips or stand up repeatedly to get tea until he could snag the seat next to Sakurai. Aiba’s voice had told him every time he said “Sho-chaaaaan”.

But right now Ninomiya’s eyes were telling him ‘this is my chance!’

“The ‘Who Can Seduce Jun First’ contest, huh?” Satoshi chuckled, immediately leaning into Nino’s side, cradling the other star’s arm with his neck. Honestly, he could’ve cared less about the contest. Leader was just relieved Nino wasn’t pissed off anymore. Although Aiba’s attitude tended to affect the group’s vibe the most, Nino was actually a very close second. Most people just didn’t realize it.

Nino pulled him over to the closest couch and the two of them collapsed together, Ohno’s head resting against his friend’s chest. He adjusted his hips to make himself more comfortable, waiting for Nino to elaborate on the contest. Although it seemed pretty self explanatory, the gamer always seemed to make up rules, either to make it more of a challenge or simply more interesting.

Looking around obviously to make sure no one was listening, Nino began speaking again, his voice more animated than it had been in the last month.

“The first person who gets him in bed wins.” Satoshi let out a loud laugh and looked up at Nino. He made is sound like it was so easy. “He has to consent, too. He can’t be drunk at the time, and you have to make him kiss you-or me as the case may be- at least once beforehand. And no bribing him!”

Ohno already knew their contest was impossible. Actually, the only reason Nino had come up with it was probably to entertain himself and to find an excuse to get closer to Jun.

It was easy to listen when people thought you weren’t paying attention.

They didn’t think you would pick up on the slight curve of their lips or the sparkling in their eyes or the fact that they had been watching him for twenty minutes straight.

In fact, although Ohno had never said a word about it and never would, he knew Nino was in love with Jun. The leader of Arashi had noticed a while ago, when the two of them were watching one of Matsujun’s drama on TV together.

Nino… Of all people, Satoshi thought that maybe he would have learned. Learned that Ohno didn’t just simply find his life as a star boring, but had used his blank look as a survival mechanism. Learned that Ohno knew all of his deep dark secrets, even the ones that Nino hadn’t told him.

But hell, even Ohno himself was in love with Jun. Could anyone resist the way he played around with his hair when he was impatient or the way his front teeth barely showed when he smiled, his real genuine smile? No, not one person alive could resist Matsujun.

Physically, anyway. His personality was a completely different story, especially recently.

Despite his infatuation, Nino’s eyes had also told him that he was seriously upset at Jun. Although Ohno didn’t doubt Nino’s affection for Sho and Aiba (together or apart), the words that Jun had been flinging around recently had hurt all of them. Those words told the two long time friends and comedy duo that hoping for a relationship with the only Arashi member not to audition for Johnny’s was laughable. It was impossible. It would never happen. Ever.

Even having a little hope was better than none, right?

Ohno felt the same as Nino. The difference was he knew Nino was paying attention.

Leader wondered what he should do with this “opportunity” presented to him. Nino would probably make the best of it, pushing Jun’s limits until the idol told him to shove it, and then simply dismiss the entire situation as a prank. Ohno could already hear the wheels turning inside his friends head, clicking out calculations on how far the prankster could get before Jun burst.

On the other hand, Ohno probably wouldn’t do a thing for the contest. He’d agree to play along, give Nino the opportunity to tease and torture Jun, and then when the whole thing came out he’d back Nino up and give him an alibi. If anyone asked why he wasn’t trying to seduce Jun too, he’d let out a joke like “I was trying the slow, silent approach.” Leader could picture Aiba’s giggling already, and Sho would surely let out a laugh at that Ohno-like statement. Jun might not find it funny initially, but when his workload lessened and he was back to a full night of sleep every day, he’d looked back and just shake his head at the two of them. Like always.

And then it would go back to normal.

Leader marveled at how smart Kazu could be sometimes.

“What do I get if I win?” Ohno asked suddenly, implying that Jun as a prize was not good enough. Put in Jun’s own words: ‘That kind of relationship is not going to go anywhere.’

Nino, who had been quite busy with his own plotting, turned to Ohno, blinked, then smiled wider. “I’ll give you a kiss?” he offered. Leader laughed, probably louder than he needed to.

“Okay, it’s a deal.”

Nino had put his plan into action immediately after they returned to the studio. He sidled up next to Jun and threw an arm around the taller idol’s shoulder, completely ignoring the fact that they had been having an argument before. Jun looked down at him with a raised eyebrow and a scowl.

“What.” Although it was technically a question, Jun didn’t make it sound like one. It sounded more like ‘why are you bothering me?’

Ninomiya gave him a wide smile. “Nothing, just wanted to say hi.” Jun turned from Nino to Ohno, who had reaffixed his vague ‘I don’t know what’s going on’ look.

“What’s he doing?” Jun asked him, already suspicious about the completely changed attitude. Ohno blinked, looked at Nino next to Matsujun, and then shrugged. If you played dumb, although sometimes people would put words in your mouth, they never knew whether it was actually true or not. There would always be some doubt.

The busy drama star shrugged, but didn’t push Nino off of him. His posture was telling Ohno that he felt bad for what had happened earlier, but was far from admitting that he had done anything wrong.

When Jun looked away, Nino gave Ohno a wink and stuck his tongue out. Ohno simply smiled back at him.

It was several days later, and Jun was lasting longer than Ohno thought he would have. Nino had gone as far as to sit on his lap during one of their group meetings, and although Jun had looked annoyed, he didn’t push Nino off of him.

Outside of Nino simply clinging to him when he could, the gamer had also kissed him on the cheek on-air, grabbed his butt when the other star couldn’t retaliate, and had even “accidentally” walked in on him changing four days in a row. Ohno also knew that he had gone out of his way to bring popsicles to work, too, but the right timing for devouring the treat and moaning ‘ah, this is so good’ hadn’t come up yet. But the captain surely wanted to be there when it did.

Sho and Aiba had found it amusing as well, constantly bugging Leader to ask him what Ninomiya was doing, but so far Ohno had kept his mouth shut. Staring at someone and blinking a few times could get you really far, especially with a reputation like Ohno had.

Even Jun had approached him on his way home one day.

“Seriously, what’s Nino up to?” Although he tried his best to sound annoyed, the tone of Jun’s voice told Ohno that he was actually relieved the gamer wasn’t pissed at him. Actually, Jun’s complaining had also toned down since the bet had begun. Whether that was due to the fight beforehand or Ninomiya’s impishness wasn’t apparent.

Ohno gave him his best blank look and shrugged. After a moment he smiled goofily. “I don’t know, but it’s funny.” Jun sighed and shook his head, but there was a faint smile playing on his lip that he probably assumed Ohno couldn’t see.

“Well, see you,” Jun waved, admitting defeat. Ohno gave him a low wave back, wondering if maybe he should participate in the contest after all.

“Get off, Nino.”

Jun was not in a good mood today. He hadn’t slept at all the night before, mostly due to a late filming of a variety show, practicing for their concert by himself afterwards (since he’d had to skip practice with the rest of the members) and then an early interview for a magazine the next day.

“I’ll give you a massage! It’ll make you feel better!” Nino was trying so hard to get Jun to cheer up although it was probably safer to leave the ticking time bomb alone.

He was straddling Jun, who was seated on Arashi’s group couch, and was already trying to rub the star’s shoulders.

Ohno watched Jun close his eyes, his eyebrows still furrowed deeply, and take a deep breath. Ooooh, he was really mad. But at least he was trying hard to disguise it.

“I said. Get. Off.” Nino pouted at the harsh words, but stood and backed off. He directed an obvious frown at Jun before trudging over to where Ohno was watching the scene by the water cooler. He heard his friend mumbled something about a “stick up his ass” before Nino leaned against the wall next to him, folding his arms in front of his chest.

Ohno couldn’t help himself. “How’s it going?” he asked, half heartedly trying to hold back his smirk. Nino raised an eyebrow at him.

“I’m sure you saw that.”

Ohno shrugged.

“It really looked like you were making progress.”

Nino let out a bitter laugh. “At least I’m trying.” Although that had come out of his mouth, Nino’s eyes said he was glad to not have competition. Even if it would have been funnier.

Ohno smiled warmly, wondering if it was time to release his joke. Maybe it was a good idea to try it out on Kazu first, to check his reaction. “I’m going for the slow, silent route. Soon he won’t be able to resist me any long.”

Ninomiya’s scowl fell from his face and he immediately smiled, popping out a few good laughs.

“Oh, I see how it is. Better watch out for you, then…” Nino punched his shoulder lightly and then slung his own arm over Ohno’s neck, as he so often did.

They laughed for a minute until Ohno’s eyes met Jun’s across the room. They told him he was annoyed, but they didn’t say why.
