i have to admit that when i saw that rafa/roger was on the table for rpf_big_bang my initial reaction was a mixture of :O and !!!!! and :D and wow, i can't wait to see how this is pulled off! and i'm pretty sure your summary made this story the one i was looking forward to reading the most, and--

oh my gosh, this was lovely! what a great way to pop my metaphorical fandom cherry! i enjoyed reading this so much. your rafa voice was stellar, and i actually laughed out loud picturing him saying your dialogue. so much fun, and so true to life. (i thought you'd like to know you had him say he was thirty-three instead of thirty-eight at one point, though!)and i thought you did a fantastic job of exploring the complexities that come with being roger federer, ex-superstar and current-divorcee. i especially loved his relationship with mirka. also, you get the prize for best use of andy murray in a scene, ever! just - so much fun, and such a great way to get roger thinking ( ... )

Eee, thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it, especially since it was your first Rafa/Roger (if you're curious for more, there's a great recs list here, and of course there's fedal_slash /temptation)!

Augh, thanks for catching the age thing - this is what comes of editing with a bottle of wine, haha.

temptation always works like a charm, ack! i may possibly be developing something of a new appreciation for this fandom. thank you very much for the recs - i suspect i'm going to be exploring those for a while (starting from, uh, all night last night, whoops!). having read this first, i think i might be a little spoilt already, though; i am pretty sure your voices and your style are going to stay with me no matter how much other rafa/roger i read!

hee, no problem, we've all been there, trust me. ;D

amg.
I don't really read much tennis slash but this was wonderful, aching in all the right places and warm where it needed to be.
My mother and that entire side of the family is from Spain, and we live in Mallorca, actually, an hour or two from Manacor (where Rafa is from). I like the detail you gave the island, it really is very beautiful and I could see them both easily on any of the beaches I've frequented over the years.

Absolutely brilliant. Their relationship really is something else, isn't it? Your writing works very well for them. Thank you so much for writing this, and huge props for finishing such a hefty challenge. Congrats!

Roger, that movie was the gayest thing since Brokeback Mountain, and it didn’t even come close to real life.

Hahahaah, Andy Roddick LOVE!! ♥

What a great fic, omg. I utterly adore long, lingering fics, and one for Rafa/Roger? That's rare, and it's so entirely delectable when one as good as this comes along. I loved the whole thing, the build up, the description of the movie, the feelings you allowed to simmer between them before that awesome, awesome kiss in the sea... dreamy. Really just so dreamily lovely.

I also think you dealt with Roger's conflicts well, and again, how much do I love that it's Andy who gives him the truth that he needs? Fantastic!

Great, great work. I love it so much. Definitely going straight into my delicious account for future rereading. :)

"No competition if we play on clay," Rafa said, smirking, as they arranged their gear on a pair of chairs at the net, next to the empty umpire's stand.

"Hey," Roger protested, shoving at Rafa's shoulder. "I won the French. I beat you on clay plenty of times."

"Roger," Rafa said, "four times is not plenty. You never beat me at the French, no?"

"I could have."

"Oh, for sure," said Rafa, with gentle sarcasm.

"Hey," said Roger. "You know you're talking to the greatest tennis player ever, right?"

"For sure," Rafa said, as he led the way onto the tennis court. He shot a glance back over his shoulder, adding, "But not on clay."

I cannot tell you how hard I lolled at this! Seriously, you have such a knack with these two, just the right mix of ego and friendship becuase you know that even Rafa's got to be just a teensy bit arrogant when it comes to clay, despite RG this year.

"I missed this," Rafa said, low.

Roger shut his eyes, breathing in. "Me too."

"Was never the same, after you," Rafa said. "Never the sameI actually had ( ... )

Rafa's car, and his driving - love the layers of characterization there. The eyebrows. The fish. The girls being teenage girls. Mirka being awesome. Andy Roddick being beautifully blunt, Brooklyn totally unfazed. Roger's lostness. "Roger," said Rafa, slowly. "One problem at a time, please?" Sorry about the incoherence - in short, enjoyed it, and will enjoy rereading it.
