It's so obvious you know lots about this context, too. The detail is so compelling. And the descriptions! From this angle all there was to be seen was the man's bare back, slick with sweat and gleaming like bronze in the low gold light, the muscles of the shoulders taut with the anticipation of pain. I can see it so clearly. And that's just one example of so many.
And Rafa begging Roger to run away at the end. So, so sad, and so, so Rafa.
And Roger! They trained together so much that Roger began to feel that he would never be able to fight another man, that he was moulding himself into the opponent for Rafa. There would never be another opponent for Roger; there would never be another fight after this one. It's kind of eerie how that echoes ( ... )
