Anyways, the book is an "anthology" of Daddy-Long-Legs and its sequel Dear Enemy by Jean Webster.
Ooh, I had that exact book in my bag on the floor! (I started pulling out all of the books on the bag on the floor just to see what page 18 line 4 had to say in each one of them.)
When I was in DC, I used to walk to work down Pennsylvania Avenue singing audibly along to my iPod. :) LOL I LOVE that image! And one day, the President drives by with the window down a bit, and hears you singing away...
Oh. I forgot about Charlotte. I like that name too!
Poor you. Forced to read NA. Is you birthday soon?
That's awesome, that you had that book. It is too underappreciated, I think. :) I am doing my level best to recommend it to everyone, but it's not really the type of book that would appeal to everyone, sadly. --And I love these memes that ask you to flip to a random line in a book, I don't know why. :)
It was great fun--and what made me laugh inside was the fact that I didn't even get any weird looks from anyone else walking on the sidewalk, and there were always other people around. No one seemed to notice, or care. Interesting snapshot of urban living, I think, especially because I always notice other people singing on the street.
Yes, "forced" to read NA indeed. I have such a hard, hard life...
And yes, my birthday is on Thursday (which for me is soon. For a 3 year old, not so much).
I just discovered and read Daddy-Long-Legs over the summer and absolutely loved it. I only recently found out that it had a sequel, so I got that and read it in the past week. It was pretty good too. You're right, more people should read it.
I don't think I could do it, because I always notice when other people do.
Cool! Are you sad to be away from home on your birthday?
Yea! Another fan! :) I like the sequel, but not as much as the original. I wanted more of Judy and Jervie, and we only got oblique references. I'm kind of a sucker for "what happens next" references. But I do like Sally, so I guess it's ok. :)
Um, I was sad the first time, but this is my fourth time being away on my birthday, and I'm kind of used to it. Still a little sad, but nothing to brood about.
